On Notice…

iMonk: The iMonk gets the spot for the Calvinist position this month. To be honest, I enjoy his blog, and he has tons of great stuff to say about the church and post-evangelicalism. The reason he gets the Calvinist spot is for his post on how most churches are missing the gospel. While I somewhat agree with his Jeremiad, he misses the point when he thinks the hyper-Calvinist Founders Movement is right in asserting this. Come on, I think we can find someone better (I can think of 1000 people) to help bring our churches back to the gospel (or perhaps what might be better is the Christ-centered life).

My cell phone checking habits: Not only does my inability to call people back and respond to messages make me a bad friend, it also made me miss a free skybox ticket for a Mariner’s game. Damn Me!

Certain People: I often find myself hoping that COTA would do things differently sometimes, and that MHGS would do things differently most of the time (like requiring counseling for people in practicum 1 next year). But nothing really ticks me off more than when people say “why don’t you go somewhere else?” Is it really that bad that someone would want to be in communion with people they don’t agree with? That they would like to hope better for their school/church? I think it is okay to do these things, although I may be loud and obnoxious sometimes it is only because I think things should go differently.

Seattle ‘Progressives’: I don’t see how a group of people who claim to be world informed, and not think like a typical American, are so ignorant and closed minded toward religion. Not just Christianity, but they almost completely to fail to understand any religion. On top of that they are thoroughly American in their rejection of religious practices. Try not being exactly like the rest of Western Civilization and try thinking a little deeper.

Benedict: Our dog is a mean dog to other dogs. For some reason it is difficult for him to play nice. Until he learns to be friendly with other four-legged friends (cats not included) he will be On-Notice.

Summer Movies: I am sorry, but they all sucked this summer. Emo Spiderman made me sick, and Pirates was awful. I rented Black Snake Moan, and it made me moan in agony.  Knocked Up was good, but could have been better with 90% rating on RT. Ocean’s 13 was worth the cost of admission. But I have low hopes for remaining summer flicks.

Seattle: While it is beautiful today, this quote reminded of what is to come: “Living in Seattle is like being married to a super model who is sick 90% of the time.”

PS: My fantasy baseball team got taken off notice because they are finally starting to perform up to the high expectations fans had at the start of season. We are currently in 6th place, which puts us in the playoffs if the season ended to day, but I am relentless in my pursuit of perfection so we will continue our move towards 1st place.

beer snobs… so does that mean you’ve warmed up to steamworks?

  2. Russell

oh and for summer movies… i know it’s a “#3″, but can you honestly tell me you’re not excited about the bourne ultimatum?

  3. otherthan

ok…so you obviously have not been able to discern the difference between ‘real beer’ (ales of course) and disgusting swill, so when you start drinking beer and can really tell the difference, then we may pay attention to your beer critiques, but other than that…, well have you seen oceans 13? your beer snob, still using macs, pal..jeff

you can add Shrek the Third to the summer movies suck list. Saw it yesterday and even my kids (8 & 5) were bored!

certain people: I don’t think you are wrong for wanting to be in a minority in an environment you disagree with. In fact, I find that I learn more in being challenged by that which i disagree with, as opposed to being affirmed by that which you already believe. That said, I think you are a heratic, but I still love you.
